Anchors

-- Links to items on the same page and links to particular locations on other pages

Do you have a webpage that is long, has multiple items/topics listed down it and you want to let readers jump to particular places on your webpage? IF SO you want to use an Anchor.

Example jpg of Anchors:

To create an anchor to jump to a place on the same webpage:
  • Open your webpage for editing in Cascade.
  • Highlight the word or words that you want to jump to
  • In the WYSIWYG toolbar, click the small 'anchor' icon, a text box appears that has a space for the 'Anchor name', type in a word or label that is appropriate. Click the 'Insert' button.
  • A small 'anchor' icon appears next to the word(s) that you had highlighted.
  • Navigate to the location on the webpage (usually a list at the top of the page) where you have the word(s) that you want to jump from.
  • Highlight the word(s) and click the 'link' icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar. A new text box opens with 'Insert/Edit link' at the top. Click somewhere on the background of the box and labels will appear next to the empty textboxes that are in the middle of the window.
  • In the first empty textbox with the label 'Anchor' next to it type in the Anchor name that you created and click the 'Insert' button.

To create an anchor that takes the reader to a particular location on a different webpage:
  • Follow the first four steps in the instructions above for creating an anchor.
  • Save your webpage by clicking 'Submit' in Cascade.
  • Open the webpage that will be where your reader will be jumping from and highlight the word(s) that will be your link.
  • Click the 'Link' icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar a window opens with 'Insert/Edit' link along the top.
  • Select the 'External' tab along the top, type in the webpage address for your page with the Anchor on it. You can get your webpage address by using a web browser (not Cascade) to navigate to your webpage and then copy the web address from the browser (i.e. http://law.wm.edu/academics/programs/studyabroad/spain/learn/coursedescriptions/index.php). At the end of the web address (just after the .php portion) type:
#{Anchor}
replace the curly braces with the name of your Anchor.
  • Click the 'Insert' button and 'Submit' your webpage to save it.
